Create a Strong Profile
A strong LinkedIn profile will attract attention. When set up correctly, your profile can demonstrate how you can be a valuable team member for your future employer. Be sure to complete your entire profile when you first create an account. While this may seem obvious, it is easy to miss many parts of a LinkedIn profile. Include everything your profile requires, including a display photo, background image, headline, summary, detailed experience, education, and skills. Lastly, remember to maintain your profile regularly. Update your profile to include all your skills, experiences, and other noteworthy accomplishments.
Grow Your Network
You could have the best profile on LinkedIn, but that won't matter if no one ever sees it! Networking with other users is the easiest way to expand your list of connections. You can start by connecting with people you know – such as friends, family members, acquaintances, and current or former colleagues. Afterwards, you can expand further by connecting with industry peers. These people work in your (current or desired) occupation or industry. Connecting with the right people will help you learn about new trends and opportunities within the industry. Remember that not everyone will want to communicate with you (as a stranger). However, don't let rejection stop you from reaching out and making important connections.
Seek Out Your Interests
Are you interested in joining a particular industry or specific organization? Chances are that the company you wish to work for already has an active online representation. Make a list of companies you'd like to work for and follow their LinkedIn pages. By doing this, you can stay knowledgeable about the company's news and job openings.
Be Active and Involved
Being an active member of LinkedIn means getting involved with groups and interacting with other users, as well as sharing articles of interest. You never know who will see your insightful comment within a group or the article you shared about your interest. Your chances of being noticed by others will drastically increase if you are an active participant on LinkedIn.
